Reflection questions

1) Why do you want to be a teacher?
I'm in it for the money! Actually, I want to teach because I love kids so much. I can't have my own children yet, so I like to play with other people's children. I find so much pleasure in working with children. It is so rewarding to see them catching on to what you have been trying to teach them. I think that sums it up pretty well. Teaching is fun and something that I really enjoy, so why not be a teacher?

2) Why would/should you use technology as a teacher?
I would (not just should) use technology in my future classroom. There is so much that can be learned through the assistance of the countless types of technology that are available to us today. And Im sure that the technology world will be even more beneficial to me once I am finished with school and start my teaching. Children can learn so much through the medium of technology, so we should definitely implement it in the class. Technology is great!

Story Books

I have been having a lot of fun creating our storybook in Powerpoint. I think that if I have been enjoying this so much, then this is definitley a great idea that students could use, even in very young grades. It would add a little variety to creating books. After creating rhyming stories on ppt, students could possibly transfer them to paper to made real books. Inspiration was a great help in the process as well. I have used inspiration before, but I didn't know about the rapid fire button. That would have been a great help. Oh well. I am so stoked to see my finished story as well as everyone else's next week in class.

Skpe Sounds Superb

I am so amazed by Skype. I cannot believe how advanced our society is coming to be and I am so glad that I get to learn about these things in class before most others catch on to what is available to them. I am so stoked to go home and tell all my friends about Skype so that we can talk to eachother whenever we want. This will come in very handy for my friend that it is Russia right now. What am I going to do when this semester ends and I don't have Geoff to keep me updated on the world of technology anymore? I guess that I will have to start listening to my little bro more. Dang it! Well, that is my blog. If I have anything else that I deem worthy to reflect upon, then I will post another blog for your reading enjoyment.

My lucky Day

I had the best day ever yesterday. I was walking home and this guy in my ward told me that I won the drawing that my complex was hosting. At first I thought that he was just trying to trick me, but once I got to the complex I saw these fliers everywhere that read "Bethany Jones won the $50 gift certificate!" $50! That is a lot of money! I am so excited! I have been telling everyone because I never win anything. And all that I had to do was pay my rent on time. Cool, huh? I hope that we get out of class early today so that I can run home and claim my prize.

The war is over

First of all, I am in a computer lab right now and somebody left their fingernail clippings on the desk. How disgusting! Why would anyone trim their nails in here in the first place? And how could they have the nerve to just leave them lying there for me to be grossed out by.

Anyway, I really wish that I would have been able to use all of Stephanie's great prank ideas before I decided to listen to one of my other friends. The war had only just begun before it came to a horrible end. Everyone is going to think that I am a total idiot for doing this, but I will share anyway so that you can all learn from my mistakes. So, my friend suggested that we fingerpaint the apartment because she had done it before and the paints said that they were washable so we thought, what the heck? We broke into the apartment, busted out the fingerpaints and went crazy. It was just like we were in elementary school again or something.

We then found out that the recipients of our prank were really mad at us and they didn't want to be in a war with us anymore. My roommates and I all felt extremely guilty for our acts and I thought that our friends would hate us forever. I went over to their house and saw that the paint didn't really wash off too well. What is with Roseart labeling things "Washable" when they are far from it? I spent part of my Friday night over at their apartment trying to clean the walls with some Clorox stuff, but that didn't really work at all. We then bought these things called "Magic Erasers" that everyone swears by, but they didn't work either. Finally, we purchased another product called Zep Formula 505 that did the trick with a lot of scrubbing. So basically, I spent my whole weekend at their apartment cleaning. It was rather sad. And the paint on their door didn't come off at all so we're still not so sure what we are going to do about that.

Im so sad because I had so many other ideas were a lot less destructive and would have saved me a ton of money if I had used them instead. But things are cool now and I have decided that my prank war days are over. The end. (Sorry this was so long)

Saints At War

I am currently involved in a prank war with some guys in my ward and we are looking for some more good ideas. If anybody would like to share something that they have done in the past, feel free(Unless it involves hiding a dead fish to stink up an apartment-everyone I have talked to always mentions that prank).

If you would like any ideas to use on your own, I will share a few of the ones that we have used or plan to use soon. 1)Remove all the labels from cans so they don't know what's inside 2)Sprinkle kool-aid on towels so the color will get all over them when they get out of the shower. That's enough for now. I cannot allow all of our plans to get out this soon. But, please feel free to contribute any ideas that you may have. Thanks.

Integrating Excell and PPT

Well, (Stephanie is making fun of me for using well in my blog. What a punk! Just kidding, she is a funny girl and I would have probably done the same thing). I apologize for typing as I think. Anyway, we had a great time doing our science experiment and making a powerpoint presentation on it. I can only imagine how much children would enjoy doing something like this.

So, how could I apply a lesson like this in an elementary classroom, you ask? Let me see what I can think of. Perhaps, if I were a teacher I would integrate this technology as our class is researching different countries. The students would use to internet to find out pertinent information and then use excell to graph their findings. They would graph things such as religions, crops, and whatever else people want to know about a country. Then, those graphs would be incorporated into totally rockin powerpoint presentations so that my students could share what they learned about their countries.

Geoff Rocks IP&T!

This is seriously my most favorite class this semester! I cannot believe that anyone would question Geoff's teaching methods. Actually, I can because some people are stuck in their ways, but they shouldn't. I have learned so much this semester and I am so looking forward to what else I get to learn. I never thought that I would create a website and now I am so excited to make another one. Anyway, our class rocks and I just wanted everyone to know that if they didn't already.

Oops!

After blogging about Geoff's teaching styles, I realized that we were supposed to do so using a certain guideline to answer questions. But, I honestly cannot find those questions that he wanted us to answer. Maybe I am just too tired and that is effecting my ability to see clearly or something. I don't know. Well, if anyone knows where I can find the assignment for this week or what it is called, please let me know. See ya'll in class!

Excell

First of all, Excell is not something that I excell in personally. I don't have Microsoft Office on my laptop and so I do not have any previous experience with the program. Keeping that in mind, I thought that Geoff's lesson was adequate, but not necessarily ideal. Maybe I was just a little slow that day, but it seemed like he was moving just a bit too fast. Actually, Im not sure what it was but I was lost for most of the lecture. Luckily, everyone at my table was very willing to help me figure out what we were instructed to do. So, I suppose that it was good that Geoff hurried because that allowed time for us to help each other. In teaching, you always are going to have one or two students behind everyone else, but you cannot just wait for them while the rest of the class is extremely bored. By working with my peers after Geoff's brief intro to Excell, I was able to ask others questions that were specific to what I was struggling with. So, I guess what I am trying to say is that the teaching method that Geoff used was a good one, but there are better ways out there. I apologize if this entire blog made no sense because I pretty sure that is the case. The end.
